North and South Llano River Activities

Canoeing, Kayaking, Tubing, Swimming

Water sports are some of the most popular activities for the Junction and Kimble County areas. The South Llano River flows northward to Junction where it meets the North Llano River at the Junction City Park. This "junction" of the two rivers is downstream from the dam, which creates the Main Llano River area and then travels across miles of the Hill Country terrain and empties into the Colorado River.

For more information, contact Sonny's Canoe and Kayak Rentals 325-257-7555.

Hiking

South Llano River State Park, located 3 1/2 miles south of Junction off Highway 377 S  offers miles of hiking and backpacking trails. Be sure and take your sunscreen, plenty of bottled water, and plastic trash bags.

Birding
Fully 249 bird species have been documented in Kimble County, including striking painted buntings and green herons. South Llano State Park and Walter Buck Wildlife Management Area have observation blinds available for your wildlife viewing and photography.

Fishing
The spring fed waters of the South and North Llano Rivers are ideal areas for you to cast your lines. Fishing for bass, catfish, and Rio Grande perch are superb year-round. At the bottom of the page is a link that will give you more information on public areas for you to explore. You may also want to mark your calendars for the annual Oktoberfisch held in Junction.
